U.S. Representative Massie Speaks Out Against Internet Tax at Press Conference
“This proposed Internet sales tax on American consumers is not about fairness, and not about helping the economy”
– Congressman Massie was joined by Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Rand Paul, Rep. Steve Daines, Rep. Ron DeSantis, Rep. John Fleming, Grover Norquist, and several advocacy groups in a press conference to oppose the Internet Sales Tax.
“This bill changes the very fabric of the United States of America by subjecting people and businesses in one state to taxes and regulations of another state. This is unprecedented,” said Rep. Massie. “This proposed Internet sales tax on American consumers is not about fairness, and not about helping the economy.”
“Some say ‘it’s not a tax increase.’ Well if this bill passes, at the end of a transaction there will be less money in the pocket of the consumer and more in the government coffers, that’s a tax increase,” Massie continued. View press conference remarks here.
Congressman Massie recently wrote and sent a letter with 15 bipartisan cosigners to House leadership opposing H.R. 684, the Marketplace Fairness Act. Read the full text of the letter with signatures here.
The letter followed last month’s action on the house floor, where Reps. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Steve Daines (R-MT) joined Representative Massie to deliver a special order speech opposing the Internet tax bill.
