United States Representative Thomas Massie (KY-04), a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, announces that two airports serving Northern Kentucky will receive nearly $39 million (combined) in Airport Improvement Project (AIP) grants from the United States Department of Transportation. The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) will receive $36,926,208 from the Airport Improvement Program to rehabilitate runways and reconstruct taxiways. Gallatin County will receive $2,063,997 from the AIP for the construction of the new Sparta airport. The two airports will also receive $8,332,242 in CARES Act funding, bringing the total recent funding to $47,322,427.

"As a four-term member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I'm pleased to announce that the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) has just been awarded $45 million in funding," said Congressman Thomas Massie (KY-04). "$36.9 million of this award comes from the Airport Improvement Program which is supported by fees on jet fuel and passenger tickets. This funding will allow CVG to fulfill its critical mission of enabling a thriving regional economy and improving the quality of life of our residents."

AIP grants pay for airport infrastructure projects such as runways, taxiways, airport signage, airport lighting, and airport markings. The funds obligated for AIP grants originate from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund, which derives its revenue from user fees on plane tickets, jet fuel taxes, and other aviation-related sources.

Representative Thomas Massie has served on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure since he was first elected to Congress in 2012. This Congress, he is serving on the Aviation Subcommittee, the Roads and Transit Subcommittee, and the Waterways and Environment Subcommittee. The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee had no opportunity to work on the CARES Act prior to passage by House leadership without a recorded vote.
