Friends,
I invite you to read this newsletter to learn about several issues I am working on for Kentuckians. If you're short on time, here's a top line summary of some of my activities in May:
- Forced the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to admit the "gun show loophole" doesn't exist.
- Questioned the ATF Director on his refusal to answer Congress's inquiries about the January 6 pipe bombs.
- Introduced the Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act to "End the Fed."
- Introduced the Interstate Milk Freedom Act to prevent the federal government from interfering with the interstate traffic of raw milk products.
- Introduced HR 8519 to end taxpayer-funded censorship programs like those exposed in the "Twitter Files."
- Received the "Award for Conservative Excellence" from the CPAC Foundation.
- Participated in a Weaponization Committee hearing examining the use of lawfare tactics against presidential candidate Donald Trump.
- Responded to the Trump verdict: "Partisan hacks serving as judges, investigators, and prosecutors have turned our legal system into a farce at both the state and federal level."
- Pointed out that Congress has used at least $17 million of taxpayer money for undisclosed hush money payments to cover up sexual harassment claims.

Massie Forces ATF Director to Admit the "Gun Show Loophole" Doesn't Exist
|
The House Judiciary Committee held an oversight hearing this month to examine the mission and programs of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). This provided me with the opportunity to publicly question ATF Director Steven Dettelbach.
During my questioning of Dettelbach, I was able to dispel two myths commonly invoked by gun-grabbers. First, Director Dettelbach admitted to me that there is no such thing as a gun show loophole. Next, I revealed that the ATF and the media artificially inflate childhood firearm death statistics by including 18- and 19-year-old gang members.
Watch the embedded video to see these commonly invoked myths fall apart.

Rep. Massie Questions ATF Director on His Refusal to Answer Inquiries about the 1/6 Pipe Bombs
|
In the same hearing referenced above, I asked ATF Director Dettelbach pointed questions about the pipe bombs discovered on January 6th. His continued refusal to answer Congress's questions about this subject borders on contempt.
It's been three years without answers from the Biden administration. What information is Dettelbach hiding?

Representative Massie Introduces Legislation to "End the Fed"
|
This month, I introduced the Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act, HR 8421, to "End the Fed." The bill abolishes the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve and the Federal Reserve banks. It also repeals the Federal Reserve Act, the 1913 law that created the Federal Reserve System.
Americans are suffering under crippling inflation, and the Federal Reserve is to blame. During COVID, the Federal Reserve created trillions of dollars out of thin air and loaned it to the Treasury Department to enable unprecedented deficit spending. By monetizing the debt, the Federal Reserve devalued the dollar and enabled free money policies that caused the high inflation we see today.
Monetizing debt is a closely coordinated effort between the White House, Federal Reserve, Treasury Department, Congress, Big Banks, and Wall Street. Through this process, retirees see their savings evaporate due to the actions of a central bank pursuing inflationary policies that benefit the wealthy and connected. If we really want to reduce inflation, the most effective policy is to end the Federal Reserve.
The Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act was first introduced by former Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) in 1999 and hasn't been reintroduced since 2013.

Rep. Massie Introduces the Interstate Milk Freedom Act

In May, I also reintroduced the Interstate Milk Freedom Act, HR 8374. This bill prevents the federal government from interfering with the interstate traffic of raw milk products between states where distribution or sale of such products is already legal.
Executive branch agencies, such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), do not and should not have the power to shut down trade between peaceful farmers and willing consumers. It is Congress's job to legislate. The Interstate Milk Freedom Act would make it easier for families to buy the milk of their choice by reversing the criminalization of specific dairy farmers.

Rep. Massie Introduces Legislation to End Taxpayer-Funded Censorship Programs
|
I also recently introduced HR 8519, legislation designed to prohibit the expenditure of taxpayer funds on programs that censor the free speech of Americans.
Were it not for Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter, claims of government censorship of online speech would be dismissed. However, after purchasing the company, Mr. Musk released internal documents known as the "Twitter Files" that showed the government colludes with private companies and universities to violate the First Amendment. The government's censorship efforts even extended to accurate tweets I posted to my official congressional Twitter account.
If a Member of Congress's account can be censored on the pretext of combatting "misinformation," "disinformation," or "malinformation," it can be done to anyone's account. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was correct when he told me that the term "malinformation" is used "to describe information that Facebook and Twitter and the other social media sites understood was true that the White House and other federal agencies wanted to censor anyway for political reasons because it challenged official orthodoxies." My legislation will end taxpayer funding for programs the federal government uses to censor speech.

Rep. Massie Receives "Award for Conservative Excellence"
|
Thank you to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Foundation for presenting me with the "Award for Conservative Excellence" based on the voting record I compiled during the first session of the 118th Congress. My score is the highest attained by any member of Kentucky's House delegation over this period.
For over 50 years, the Center for Legislative Accountability has been producing congressional scorecards. Lawmakers' rankings reflect how closely their votes adhere to two fundamental conservative beliefs: that sovereignty resides in the person and that the proper role of government is to protect life, liberty, and property.
It was a pleasure to join CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp and CPAC Foundation Board Member Matt Smith for the award presentation ceremony.

House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government Examines the Use of Lawfare Tactics
|
The Weaponization Committee held a hearing in May to shed light on the “lawfare” being waged against presidential candidate Trump.
The Special Counsel prosecuting Trump, Jack Smith, gets his power from Attorney General Garland. As I discussed with the witnesses, it's a fallacy to think he's operating free of political bias.
Donald Trump's conviction in New York was a weaponization of the judicial system, but there is more to come. Alvin Bragg is funded by the State of New York, but Jack Smith is funded by the U.S. Congress led in the House by Speaker Mike Johnson, who refuses to defund the next sham conviction of Trump.
