As your United States Representative, I have the privilege of nominating a limited number of qualified candidates to attend one of the U.S. Service Academies. The honor of attending a Service Academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

We have been working through a chaotic legislative calendar, and due to unscheduled votes in Washington D.C., I was not able to attend Academy Day. But approximately 100 students and their parents were there to learn more about the nation's military academies. Representatives from the United States Military Academy at West Point, the United States Naval Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, and the United States Coast Guard Academy provided presentations about their institutions. In addition, Kentucky State Representative Savannah Maddox led the prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, and Kentucky State Senator Gex Williams offered remarks commending students in attendance.

While it is not necessary to attend Academy Day to apply for a nomination, students who attend can learn more about the nomination process. The nomination process also includes an additional day in the fall when applicants have formal interviews with representatives from the academies.

The U.S. Service Academies offer young men and women an opportunity to serve their country while improving all facets of their character through a rigorous academic curriculum and a disciplined moral and physical regimen. Competition for entry into a Service Academy is high, and nominees are chosen based on several factors, including character, leadership, academic excellence, physical aptitude, and extracurricular activities.

Congratulations to Isabella VonLehman (United States Naval Academy), Cheney Carey (United States Air Force Academy), and Andrew McDowell (United States Coast Guard Academy – unable to attend Academy Day) for accepting their appointments to attend their respective academies! To the attendees who are veterans or active duty- thank you for your service!

Rep. Massie Introduces Patent Reform Legislation Restoring "First to Invent" Protection to Inventors

I introduced patent reform legislation designed to restore to Americans a patent system as the Constitution of the United States originally envisioned it. The legislation, HR 8134, the "Restoring America's Leadership in Innovation Act of 2024" (RALIA), reverses several harmful changes to patent law that arose from Supreme Court rulings and the enactment of the Leahy-Smith "America Invents Act." Among the significant reforms contained in the legislation is a return to the "first to invent" standard to ensure patent protection for America's inventors.

RALIA also contains other important reforms to the patent system. Notably, RALIA affirms that a patent secures private property rights, allows inventors to get injunctions again against intellectual property thieves, restores inventors' rights to defend their inventions in court by abolishing the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and ends the automatic publication of patent applications unless a patent is granted. 

The legislation is supported by organizations including AMAC Action, American Policy Center, Americans for Limited Government, Center for American Principles, Conservatives for Property Rights, Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund, IEEE-USA, Less Government, Let Freedom Ring, 60 Plus Association, the Small Business Technology Council, Taxpayers Protection Alliance, Tea Party Patriots Action, The Committee for Justice, Tradition Family Property Inc., U.S. Business & Industry Council, US Inventor, and Veterans Intellectual Property.

In offering their endorsement of the bill, the Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund wrote, "a wide range of reforms, such as those contained in the Restoring America's Leadership in Innovation Act, are required if the U.S. patent system is to secure private property rights, promote progress of science and useful arts, and ensure that America remains the world's leader in innovation."

I recently sat down with One America News Network's John Hines for an interview about my proposed amendment establishing a right to "Food Freedom" in the Constitution. Americans should have the right to grow food and to purchase food from the source of their choice without federal interference.

Speaker Johnson employed the help of House Democrats to rig the rules of the House. Shamefully, they converted a veterans care bill into a vehicle for passing a $100 billion package funding foreign wars.

I expressed opposition on the House floor to both the process and the likely results. I also voted against the legislation sending American tax money to Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel.

I joined Newsmax's Eric Bolling to discuss a red flag in the FISA reauthorization bill that I uncovered. The bill contains a carve-out giving Members of Congress special treatment if the FBI spies on them without a warrant.

FISA must protect all Americans from warrantless searches, not just Congressmen! I voted against FISA's reauthorization.

Mike Johnson's Many Betrayals

I spoke with Glenn Beck about Speaker Johnson's three recent betrayals of Republicans and the pending motion to vacate. Rep. Jeffries and the entire House Democrat leadership have vowed to save Johnson because he gives them what they want. 

Reps. Massie and Greene: Speaker Johnson Has Betrayed Republicans and Should be Removed

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has introduced a resolution to remove Mike Johnson from his position as Speaker of the House. I am a cosponsor of the legislation.

We recently held a press conference to discuss the need for Speaker Johnson's removal. I have embedded the video of this event above and I encourage you to watch it.

As Speaker, Mike Johnson has continually enlisted a majority of House Democrats to override House Republicans. He did this to:

1) Pass an omnibus spending bill that spends more money than Pelosi did

2) Reauthorize warrantless spying on Americans; further, he cast the deciding vote to defeat the warrant requirement sought by House conservatives

3) Send $60 billion to Ukraine

Together, Speaker Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have revealed the existence of the Uniparty that currently governs Washington, D.C. With this poor record, it comes as no surprise that House Democratic Leadership recently endorsed Speaker Johnson in writing. 

Why does Hakeem Jeffries want Mike Johnson as Speaker? Because the Democrats want:

• No action taken on the border
• No conservative policy victories
• More money for Ukraine
• A Democratic House majority 
• An expanded Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation
• No budget cuts
• President Trump to lose in November

They know that the uninspiring Mike Johnson can deliver all of these things if he remains as Speaker.

"Hate Speech" Legislation

The House voted on a bill (HR 6090) to define "antisemitism" with the intent of increasing prosecution of activity on college campuses. The bill has a problem beyond its violation of the First Amendment: the definition of "antisemitism" appears nowhere in the bill! Why was it left out?

To find the legally adopted definition of "antisemitism," one must go to the website linked here. Not only is the definition listed there, but one also finds examples of "antisemitic" speech. Are those examples made part of the law as well?

Do you agree with all of these examples of "antisemitism"? Should people in America be prosecuted for saying these things in all contexts? I think not. HR 6090 is a poorly conceived, unconstitutional bill. I voted no.
