I hope you are doing well. March was a busy month! The 116th Congress is now in full swing, and the Capitol is buzzing with visitors. Last month, I was able to meet with more than two dozen constituent organizations to discuss legislative priorities. My staff and I were also able to provide Capitol tours to 17 constituent groups and families. When I left to return home to Kentucky last week, the cherry blossom trees were starting to bloom. I hope this is a sign of good things to come.

Constituent Meeting with The Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance |

Early in March, I met with Melissa Pennington from Ashland to discuss federal funding for research into discovering a cure for tuberous sclerosis complex. Her son, Brady, has this genetic disorder. After our meeting, I signed a Dear Colleague letter to request continued research funding.

U.S. Army Seal Presentation |

The Army House Liaison Division Chief, Colonel Timothy Holman, delivered an official Army Seal to my D.C. office last week. We plan to hang every seal from each military branch in my office. This seal features the American flag, Army flag, a musket, and a snake from the colonial Gadsden flag holding a scroll inscribed, "This We'll Defend." I am pleased to display this seal, as well as the others, in honor of those who have sacrificed to protect our freedoms.

2018 Defender of Economic Freedom Award |

I was awarded a 2018 Defender of Economic Freedom award from The Club for Growth. This award is given to lawmakers who vote to protect economic liberty and advocate for limited government, lower taxes, and the reduction of wasteful government spending.

It was my pleasure to meet with the Department of Kentucky American Veterans last month. This group advocates for more comprehensive and quality care for women veterans, as well as increased oversight, accountability, and improvement at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Holly Harris, Executive Director of Justice Action Network, traveled to Washington, D.C. from Kentucky to testify in front of the Oversight and Reform Subcommittees on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and Government Operations. As a member of the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, I had the opportunity to question her about "Ban the Box," legislation aimed at removing the question about a person's criminal record from hiring applications.
