U.S. Representative Massie Cosponsors Bill to Stop Abuse of Civil Liberties
“This bill is an important step in reasserting the constitutional rights of all Americans”
WASHINGTON – Congressman Massie joined as an original cosponsor of the bipartisan LIBERT-E Act, a comprehensive response to the NSA’s sweeping surveillance activities.

"Recent abuses of the Patriot Act have demonstrated the dire need for legislative reform," said Rep. Massie. "This bill is an important step in reasserting the constitutional rights of all Americans."

H.R. 2399, Limiting Internet and Blanket Electronic Review of Telecommunications and Email Act (LIBERT-E Act), restricts the federal government’s ability under the Patriot Act to collect information on Americans who are not connected to an ongoing investigation. The bill also requires that secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court opinions be made available to Congress, and that declassified summaries of the opinions be made available to the public.

Congressman Amash (R-MI) and Congressman Conyers (D-MI) introduced the bill with 31 original cosponsors.
